First Leg Completed
After years of dreaming, months of preparation, and a week of travel I have arrived in Mexico on SEEKER for the first time.
I left Long Beach on Thursday, November 16 and anchored for two nights in Dana Point Harbor. It was nice to visit Dana Point. Even nicer because anchoring is free! From there I went down to Oceanside and spent a great afternoon and night at the Oceanside Yacht Club. The hospitality was great and I appreciated the use of their guest dock. Sunday, November 19, I moved down to Mission Bay and anchored there for two nights and was lucky enough to visit with my friend John whom I've known since 2nd grade...
At 0130 on Tuesday, November 21, I left Mission Bay for the 11 hour run down to Ensenada. I wanted to get in early enough in the afternoon to clear customs during normal business hours. The overnight section started a little tense with limited visibility but with sunrise the weather was clear and a great trip developed.
I arrived at the Coral Hotel and Marina around 1300 hours and was able to get most of the paperwork completed that afternoon. The marina processed everything (for a fee) and all I had to do was hand the clerk a credit card and sign my name at 3 different windows.
I booked my stay in Ensenada for 30 days before heading down to Cabo San Lucas area. I have done a little exploring on foot and paddle board so far. I purchased my fishing license so I hope to take my dinghy out next week and try fishing one afternoon. There is some rain in the forcast starting this Wednesday so I'll see how it goes.
Although the distance in miles isn't very great, having made the first little leg of an indeterminate length trip is a great feeling. I've started looking for the next stop down in the Cabo area to again tie up for a few weeks and get the lay of the land there before heading up into the Sea of Cortez.
