Loreto / Puerto Escondito

I departed Agua Verde on 2/24 and moved up to Caleta Candeleros which is a nice cove with a huge sandy beach that is shallow out quite a distance from shore.  There is at least 1 large resort built up there on the beach with another one or two in progress it looks like.

As I got ready to move up to Honeymoon Cove on Isla Danzante to wait for my slip availability at Puerto Escondito on 2/29 I had the same engine start problem AGAIN.  I'm about done with that.  So I called Puerto Escondito and they had space available in the mooring field which is protected from all directions. It is really a great spot.  They have about a hundred single point moorings spaced throughout the large basin that appears to have a had a couple of small sections filled in with breakwater to make the entirely enclosed harbor.

On shore the facilities are really nice.  Certainly the nicest boater showers I've seen on the west coast.  The Twin Dolphin Marina in Bradenton Fl still has the top spot! The restaurant is on the 2nd level with a great view and a pizza oven almost as nice as the one at the Corsair cove!

The nights have been beautiful with fish leaving glowing trails as they swim through the phosphoresent plankton.

After my friend Scott leaves on 3/9 I will be heading out on 3/12 and starting my way back toward Cabo and home. I'm going to quit pushing my luck with the starting issue and get back to So Cal and get it resolved. And maybe switch to lithium batteries.... maybe.

When Scott arrived I got a rental car and went in to Loreto to look around.  It was smaller than I expected but had several resort/hotels along the water. There were also several 'rv park' type places where the 4x4 camper vans were apparently taking a breather from being on the beaches on the coast.

With the lack of confidence in starting I have just been using the dinghy to run out 2-5 miles to different coves and see what there is to see snorkeling.  Lots of different starfish, weird looking slate pencil urchins, and puffer fish. Lots of good stuff.

I'm gonna pick up another battery here in Loreto when I drop Scott off at the airport. I'm hoping that one will get me 10 starts at least like the last one as I head back to Cabo. Then I may get another spare in Cabo to get up to Ensenada.  After that, I'll call Sea Tow if I have to!
