Agua Verde
I moved up to Evaristo for a night then continued on up to Agua Verde which has pretty good protection from North and great protection from West winds. There were forecasts for gusts 25-30 that never quite got to that level, but I was glad to be in a pretty sheltered spot just in case.
There is a little village along the beach with a small market and 2 restaurants on the beach. Each restaurant has 2-3 tables.. and they both have very good fish tacos. I had to compare and contrast just to be thorough.
It was great to paddle board to the beach, drag my board up onto the dry sand and sit at a table in sight and sound of the small surf coming into the beach as the sun went down. The little village is about 25 miles off the main highway (according to the cruising guides - I didn't walk anywhere near that far!). There are quite a few 4x4 camper van/truck vehicles parked on the beach in addition to the several boats at anchor.
On wednesday there was a pod of dolphin making their very slow way around the bay for at least an hour going back and forth in the shallows near the boat. As I was coming in to Agua Verde I saw quite a few manta (I believe) rays feeding near the surface. They were moving very slow just under the water with only their little front mouth fins showing. It was super calm and glassy. I heard splashes which were probably some jumping at a distance, but didn't see that.
Some of the shoreline around the bay is clifs or hills that drop straight to the water. There are several areas where the water has undercut the hillsides and left a stone walkway under the rounded cliff overhang.
I think I will probably head up to Bahia Candeleros tomorrow or monday. Then maybe up to Honeymoon cove on Isla Danzante. That will put me right outside Puerto Escondito where I will stop for 2 days to do some looking around and shopping at Loreto when my friend arrives.
